Quim Is Revolutionizing Intimate Oils

At Beyond the Beez, we’re picky about which brands and movement-makers we highlight. We prefer quality to quantity. So rest assured when we say, you’re going to like this brand.

Quim describes itself as “a self-care line for humans with vaginas, and humans without vaginas who love vaginas.” Quim says its mission is to create quality products that deepen the connection their customers have with their bodies by empowering them to take control of their vaginal health.

What does that mean?

As Quim’s founders tell it, they were inspired to start their brand after bonding over the mutual experience of persistent health issues — including yeast infections, bladder infections, difficulty climaxing, low libido, as well as allergic reactions to commercial lube. Together, they shared and collected knowledge to make products that are body-conscious and lead to better sex through plant-based ingredients.

Oh, as for the name? It’s a cheeky nod to the body part they’re most focused on.

Quim’s founders didn’t create something totally new, nor did they have to. People have been healing each other through plant-based care for millennia. Quim’s team says they found inspiration in centuries of folk medicine and, as a community of people with vulvas, they hope to create a space to share their experiences and promote shameless self-care.

Based on this description, Quim sounded like just our kind of company — but we didn’t just take their word for it. We tried two of their products ourselves: the Happy Clam Everyday Oil and the Smooth Operator Intimate Serum.

Our Review: The Happy Clam Everyday Oil

Like most of Quim’s products, the Happy Clam Everyday oil is made with sustainability and the ritual of proactive self-care in mind. The ingredient list includes hemp-based CBD, tea tree oil, and damiana, and was formulated to reduce inflammation, moisturize, prevent common infections, and promote pleasurable intimacy. The company says it’s great to use the Everyday Oil “after bathing, before bed, during sex, when PMSing or menstruating, postpartum…” You get the picture.

Beyond the Beez testers tested the Happy Clam Everyday Oil as directed, by applying three to five pumps of the oil to their vulvas daily for a week. (Our testers don’t typically experience dryness or period pain, and they’re neither postpartum or going through menopause.) The oil has a thick consistency, but doesn’t feel sticky or leave much  residue on the hands (though it’s also very easy to rinse off). Their oil also features a nice, plant-based smell, which is not artificially added.

After a week of use, testers felt a  boost in their confidence — after all, the habit means they had been taking notable care of their vulvas! When it came to intimacy, testers said they enjoyed the extra lubrication the oil provided, and said they’d keep it on hand as an additive to their bedside drawer.

The Happy Clam Everyday Oil sets a great foundation for vaginal wellness, but what about an oil specifically tailored for intimate activities?

Our Review: The Smooth Operator Intimate Serum

The Smooth Operator Serum — which the Quim website touts as a bestseller with a five-star-rating, according to its website — is exactly that. The formula includes aloe vera and hemp-derived CBD, and is a silicone and latex-free alternative to many commercial lubricants. The serum is meant to increase blood flow, promote pelvic relaxation, and decrease inflammation and pain. It’s easy to use: just apply four to six pumps of the oil to areas requiring lubrication.

The Intimate Serum feels very similar to other serums we’ve tried here at BTBz. What really sets the product apart is the packaging, which is thoughtful and  allows your activities to stay mess-free! (BTBz is a big fan of squirt bottles for quick and controllable application.)

The CBD is a topical ingredient, so there’s only so much it can do on your skin. (No, you’re not going to get high from your intimate serum.) It’s coupled with aloe vera for a comfortable, pleasant overall sensation — and the water-based formula means the product is safe to use with sex toys and latex condoms alike. Keep it on hand for partnered foreplay or intercourse — we know we will!
