Forecast: Hot and Bothered
This Month’s Buzz
Weather-based horniness is real—especially in summer. Last week, we explored why July brings a spike in sexual activity—and after this week’s flash flood storm in NYC, we’re taking it a step further. It’s two things that tend to come in hot: sex and thunderstorms.
Here’s whats going on: Sudden thunder, heat, and pressure changes can spike cortisol and adrenaline, which leads to increased blood flow, heightened nerve sensitivity, and an uptick in desire.
In addition, thunderstorms can heighten our emotions with their loud, charged, and unpredictable nature. This sensory intensity can trigger excitement, anxiety, or fear —all of which increase our receptivity to romantic attraction. That’s partly because both fear and sexual arousal are processed in the brain’s right amygdala, blurring the line between the two.
So if you’ve ever craved a spontaneous hookup during a downpour… turns out, you’re just tuned into your environment.

This Week’s Wisdom
“Your body is not a problem to solve—it’s a language to listen to."
Our Simple Pleasure
The Bladder Boner Effect
(AKA Why You Might Feel Horny When You Have to Pee)
Have you ever had to pee and suddenly felt… turned on? There’s little conversation around this phenomenon—and yet it’s surprisingly common.
Here’s what’s happening: when your bladder is full, it puts pressure on the pelvic floor and internal clitoris. That pressure can stimulate nearby nerves and increase blood flow to the genitals, sometimes leading to unexpected arousal.
And if you’ve ever had a pregnant friend mention feeling extra horny, this might be why. A growing baby applies even more pressure to that same area—essentially amplifying the effect. For some, it’s uncomfortable. For others, it’s an unexpected turn-on.
And while we’re on the topic of pee, a quick PSA: don’t forget to pee after sex. It’s not glamorous, but it’s essential for flushing out bacteria and reducing the risk of UTIs—especially for vulva-owners.
The Naked Truth
In the spirit of July, did you know that July 14th was National Nude Day? This got me excited to talk about something I'm passionate about; sleeping naked. According to recent surveys, about one in three Americans already sleeps in the nude. Whether it’s for comfort, connection, or cooling off, the benefits go way beyond what’s on (or off) your body.
Why sleep naked?
-
You sleep better: It helps regulate your body temperature, which supports deeper REM cycles. (Think a cooler body = better rest).
-
Your skin and genitals breathe better: Especially for vulva-owners, sleeping naked helps reduce the risk of yeast infections and irritation.
-
You bond better: Skin-on-skin contact increases oxytocin, aka the love hormone.
-
You feel sexier: Being naked helps normalize your body to yourself—less shame, more self-trust.
So our tip is you start to celebrate National Nude Day every day. No outfit required.
