Flossy Q&A/Recommendations

At flossy, the team hand-selects vibes designed specifically for people with vulvas.

As they state on their website, “We’ve researched 50+ of the absolute best vibes on the market, and after surveying our audience, narrowed it down to the top products that we believe every bedside table deserves…. We started flossy because we wanted to completely change the sex shop experience. The whole why behind flossy is about creating a space that feels safe for women and people with vulvas to explore sexual wellness.”

Below they give us insight on how they choose products for flossy, as well as a guide to find the best toys for you. Finally, check the end to see a few specific recommendations by both flossy and BTBz:

How do you vet the toys you sell at Flossy?

For us, that all starts with finding products that aesthetically reinforce the idea that pleasure is normal and nothing to be ashamed of. After countless hours of research, we realized there was no shortage of incredible brands and products on the market that are founded by brands that are deeply in tune with the desires of end-users (especially within an industry that is run by 70% men... often creating products that don’t truly represent what women want!). Every product we stock is high-quality, sleek and approachable in design and doesn’t necessarily scream ‘sex.’ Our goal is that customers could closer their eyes, pick anything from our site and be 110% satisfied!

How do you find the "right" sex toy?

1. First consider - is it for solo use? Partner use? We often suggest vibes with larger surface areas for partner use so when you’re moving around, changing positions, etc., it’s a bit easier for the vibrator to maintain contact w/ the spot you want. Le Wand Petite is great because of the longer handle which allows for easy reach in diff positions

2. Then consider pinpoint stimulation or broad stimulation, if you don’t know and you’re just starting out, broad tends to be an easier entry point.

  • One of the things we love to do is a bit of a gut check just based on the look of the vibrators - for example, even if you have no idea where to start, just by looking at our page of 7 vibes, do a gut check - which 1 or 2 vibes just stand out to you? What are you feeling drawn towards? I.e. Kip because it’s so dang cute and I wonder how that head works? The good news is at flossy, we’ve made it so you truly can’t choose a wrong product - especially because all of the vibes we stock have beginner users in mind.

How do you buy a sex toy for a partner or friend?

I’m of two minds with this one.. On one hand, if you’re gifting it you potentially have a bit more free reign to get something that they might not think to get for themselves. Especially with a friend, if they’re at all hesitant to buy a vibe, it’s almost worth considering GOING FOR IT and getting something super fun like Le Wand Feel My Power limited edition... it’s big... but you are guaranteed they’ll never forget the gift and is almost impossible for them not to like it.

  • On the safer side of things, an external toy is often a safer bet for gifting as your receiver is more likely to enjoy that kind of stimulation vs. an internal toy.
  • For a partner looking for a gift, it can be really fun to browse the site together and see what your partner gravitates towards - it can be a really fun joint shopping experience that you end up surprising them with later. Do they like external? Internal? Both? If they’re not sure OR you want to complete surprise them, here are a few suggestions for what people have reported the most success with gifting from flossy:

Melt by We Vibe

Melt by We Vibe

For those long-distance lovers, this vibe is remote app controlled so you can control it from afar or use it IRL... plus it fits perfectly between bodies for partnered sex.

Kip by Dame Products

Kip by Dame Products

A fun little lipstick shaped vibe with a unique tip that is playful, cute and guaranteed to get a smile when it’s opened.

BONUS rec: for penetrative sex, we have not found a better lube than Uberlube. Just be careful though because it can’t be used with silicone toys or it will degrade the silicone.

BTBz Top Recommendations

To follow flossy’s guide, here are my top three toys, as well as a secondary lube recommendation. One overarching element you will see here is rechargeable. Keeping up with battery life is often both a pain and expensive, so I always suggest rechargeable toys. All of these options are also at a good price point, allowing you to explore without breaking the bank.

*If you purchase a toy and don’t like it, I highly recommend emailing the company to let them know. Most offer store credit, a discount, or the ability to try a different one.

Vibe by Maude

Use: Large grip with wide external stimulation. The Maude products are all very sleek, easy to use, and at a good price point - so I recommend checking out their variety of product options.

Puff by Unbound

Use: Clitoral Suction. This is another great price point option that focuses on external pleasure through a suction sensation. I find this brand is also specifically good for trying out kinkier toys to see what you like.

Xena by Zumio

Use: High intensity, pinpoint stimulation

While the visuals may be confusing (as it emulates more of an electric toothbrush than a vibrator), Zumio offers a targeted sensation and unique experience to add to your sex toy collection.

ONE Move by ONE Condoms

ONE Move by ONE Condoms

ONE Condom lubes are always a great go to. The only fo-paw is the packaging can occasionally cause leakage, so it isn’t as easy to travel with. But if its living in your bedside table, you would never notice.
